Some views just are Yorkshire — and the Knaresborough Viaduct over the River Nidd is one of them. The first attempt collapsed in 1848, but the viaduct we all know was finished in 1851: four stone arches, nearly 80 metres long and around 24 metres above the river. Since then it’s become the Knaresborough view — boats below, castle above, reflections doing half the work.
