Strong contrasts in maximum temperatures are expected across Australia as we approach the start of summer. On Sunday, maximum temperatures will climb up to 8°C above average in parts of Queensland and north-east New South Wales, reaching 36°C in both Brisbane and Rockhampton. The radar of south-east Australia this morning shows showers and thunderstorms for many areas. A cold front crossed parts of southern South Australia before dawn this morning, producing storms and damaging wind gusts. A line of heavy showers and severe thunderstorms then moved across the Adelaide area and the Mount Lofty Ranges early this morning, bringing further strong to damaging wind gusts. The new Toowoomba weather radar in Queensland is now live. The new radar adds coverage to current radar gaps to the west and south-west of Toowoomba. This includes the northern parts of the Moonie and Border rivers catchments, the upper Condamine River catchment and the mining and resources precinct around Chinchilla.
