Winter weather is slowly approaching central Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas, with freezing rain, sleet, and snow in the forecast for today. The National Weather Service in State College issued two weather advisories,

FALLS TOWNSHIP Falls Township has declared a Snow Emergency for Friday, December 26th, 6:00 PM and will expire on Saturday, December 27th, 12:00 PM. LANSDALE The Borough has issued a Snow Alert effective 12pm Friday, December 26. The emergency will be in effect until further notice.

We may not see a white Christmas this year, but just wait a day, and some parts of Eastern Pennsylvania could see up to four to six inches of snow, experts project.

With the threat of winter weather moving into south central Pennsylvania Friday, PennDOT is planning to implement vehicle restrictions on state highways and roads.

A winter storm dumped rain, sleet and rain on the Lehigh Valley Friday, creating icy roads and travel problems.

Most of the Poconos will be under a winter storm warning Friday, Dec. 26, into Saturday, Dec. 27, with several inches of snow in the forecast. In Monroe County, snow and sleet are expected to total 4 to 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service, and there will be a light glaze of ice. Higher elevations could see more than 8 inches.
