Christmas storm delivered a treacherous mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain — gifts you’d no doubt return if the roads weren’t so bad.

Six people were taken to a trauma center after a three-car crash on the Delaware Memorial Bridge Friday night.

The storm system continues to move away from the coast.Today will be dry with increasing sunshine. Here are freezing rain amounts recorded officially. There were areas that saw closer to a quarter of an inch of ice while other locations had less than a tenth.

Up to a foot of snow is possible in some higher elevations in northern New Jersey where intense snow bands could form, the National Weather Service said.

The frequency of freezing rain is due to North Dakota being in an active weather pattern. “The jet stream has been more in our area,” said Chada. “Instead of straight across the country, it’s the up-and-down kind of pattern, and that just brings more activity.”

The freezing rain that created hazardous travel across Southeast Michigan earlier Friday has moved out of the region, allowing conditions to steadily improve through the afternoon.
