President Trump spent part of Christmas Eve bantering with kids, updating families on NORAD's Santa tracker and reminding one child that the big guy has a "serious appetite."

The North American Aerospace Defense Command has been tracking the location of Santa Claus for children since 1955.

Since then, NORAD has upgraded its Santa-tracking technology by installing Santa cams in space to monitor the jolly old elf, the agency says. "NORAD tracks Santa, but only Santa knows his route, which means we cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house," a senior NORAD official said in a news release.

While you are sleeping, Santa Claus is getting ready for his busiest night of the year. Here's a look how he starts his night before the long journey ahead.

According to NORAD, it's impossible to tell when Santa will be in an area or at your home. Only Santa knows his route. However, Santa arrives only when children are asleep. In most places, Santa arrives between 9 p.m. and midnight on Dec. 24.

This year, attendees experienced a special highlight with one Santa leaping from a helicopter to celebrate the occasion.
