The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred at approximately 56 miles, 91 km, east of Noda, a town located in Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, on the northeastern coast of Honshu.

The fault that ruptured in the March quake was simple and mature, which allowed the quake's energy to shoot right to the surface.

Moderate shaking was reported near the quake's epicenter, with light shaking reported as far east as Redding, north into Klamath Falls, Ore., and as far south as Sacramento, according to the USGS.

The quakes come as California sees the effects of an atmospheric river that has caused flash flooding, rescues, and landslides.

On Dec. 24, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan's southeastern coastal county of Taitung. That quake also shook buildings in Taipei. Taiwan is prone to earthquakes and is near the junction of two tectonic plates.

The quake, which happened on the Garrard and Madison County line, has been revised from a 3.1 to a 3.4 magnitude. Seth Carpenter with the Kentucky Geological Survey explained the significance of this update.

Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake, there were no immediate reports of major injuries or severe damage to infrastructure.

According to Tom's Hardware, an inspection of affected TSMC facilities revealed no damage despite the severity of the earthquake, which registered 7.0 on Taiwan's scale. It was reported as a 6.6-magnitude event on the USGS website, which tracks earthquakes near the US and worldwide.
