A winter storm packing ice and snow arrives Friday across the Great Lakes and the Northeast and is forecast to linger into Saturday.

The path of a winter storm headed to Connecticut Friday night has shifted, bringing the potential for higher snowfall amounts across a wider swath of the state.

A swath of 5-8 inches of snow will be possible across parts of New York, including New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with up to a foot of snow possible in some isolated locations.

An area of low pressure approaching the tri-state Friday is expected to bring accumulating snow by late afternoon into Saturday morning.

A quick but impactful snow and ice storm will blast through the Northeast this weekend which will most likely cause post-Christmas travel issues.

Towns across California have been affected by storms during Christmas week, filling homes halfway with mud, cracking highways and burying cars. The National Weather Service warned of heavy rain throughout the week due to a series of atmospheric rivers.
