A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck some 32 km (20 miles) off Taiwan's northeastern coastal city of Yilan on Saturday, the island's weather administration said, with no immediate reports of major damage.

Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te and Premier Cho Jung-tai face impeachment proceedings filed by opposition party leaders after a Friday vote.

The suspect, identified as a 27-year-old man named Chang Wen, threw a smoke grenade in a major subway station, sending pedestrians running, according to local media reports.
