Green Bay Packers clinch playoff berth for third straight season
The Green Bay Packers clinched a 2025 NFL playoff berth courtesy a Minnesota Vikings win over the Detroit Lions on Christmas.
The Green Bay Packers celebrated on social media after clinching a spot in the 2026 NFL playoffs on Christmas Day.
The Packers became the sixth team in the NFC to clinch a playoff spot when the Lions lost the Vikings on Christmas Day.
Wide receiver Jordan Addison took a handoff on an end around and sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown with 3:43 left to play to lift the Vikings to a 20-10 lead over the Lions. That left enough time left for the Lions to mount a comeback that would keep their playoff their hopes alive, but their sixth turnover of the day put an end to those dreams.
The Chiefs are playing the Broncos on Christmas. Are they still in the playoff hunt? Here's their Week 17 postseason outlook.
Coming off a 15-2 campaign in 2024, the Lions entered the year as Super Bowl contenders. Sure, they lost coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, but they still had most of the talented pieces that brought them two straight division titles in 2023 and 2024 and turned around a long-distraught Lions franchise.
The Lions turned the ball over six times, losing to the Vikings to end their playoff hopes despite allowing only 161 net yards of total offense.
With their playoff lives on the line, the Detroit Lions produced an absolute dud, turning the ball over six times, forcing zero turnovers and falling to the Minnesota Vikings 23-10. That makes it a Merry Christmas for the Green Bay Packers, who clinch a playoff berth with Detroit's loss.
While the Lions fell out of the playoff race, this did not come from lack of defensive effort. When the Vikings started double-teaming Hutchinson, Muhammad entered the center stage. The resurgent edge rusher got to 11 sacks on the season with his pair today, including a second half sack to help keep the Lions’ playoff hopes alive at the time.
