Tehran, Iran — Iran seized a foreign oil tanker as it traveled the strategic Strait of Hormuz, state media said Friday.

Venezuela says it has freed 99 people who were detained after protests over the 2024 election, in what it calls its biggest prisoner release this year, The Guardian reported.

Civil society organisations have treated the news with caution and stressed that the releases were insufficient, noting that at least 900 political prisoners remain in the country.
