CBS fed its new evening news anchor to the proverbial wolves by forcing Tony Dokoupil to beg commuting New Yorkers to try and say his name. The 45-year-old Dokoupil attempted to get travellers in the Big Apple’s iconic Grand Central Station to pronounce his name in an awkward social media video posted to the CBS Evening News X account on Wednesday.

The Sun Bowl between Duke and Arizona State came to a screeching halt on Wednesday afternoon. Duke defensive lineman Kobe Smith had to be taken off of the field on a cart on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Devils standout suffered a "gruesome" injury on the field.

Wednesday was not only the final day of 2025, but also the final college football broadcast for longtime CBS analyst Gary Danielson.

Danielson ran out of time as he was looking for his final words to get off the air and punctuate his 36-year run calling ball.

CBS is preempting the soap opera nationally on New Year's Eve to allow CBS Sports to air the Sun Bowl, which will the Duke Blue Devil face off against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Beyond the Gates is scheduled to return with original episodes on Thursday, January 1, 2026 as the series concludes its first season.

On Wednesday afternoon, Gary Danielson called his final game as a college football color commentator. Unfortunately, he didn't exactly go out on his terms. Well before the 2025 season even started, Danielson announced that he was retiring from broadcasting.
